Dr M. Sofia Tognon, Director for more than 20 years of the Ocular Inflammation and Immunology Service at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Padova, Italy, is now head of the Uveitis Service at S. Antonio Hospital, Padova. Her areas of interest include immune uveitis, ocular infectious diseases and neuro-ophthalmology. Invited guest speaker speaker at national and international conferences, she has published over 150 peer reviewed articles and has authored more than 10 book chapters in the field of uveitis. Dr. Tognon has been principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple clinical trials sponsored by the Superior Health Institute (ISS) for ocular inflammation and uveitis, HIV associated diseases, immunosuppressive therapy and novel therapeutic agents (biologic drugs). During her career she developed a consolidated expertise in International and Tropical Ophthalmology, with particular attention to inflammatory eye diseases and pediatric ophthalmology in developing countries, where she is responsible for coordination and management of clinical and surgical humanitarian projects in Sub-Saharan West Africa. She is member of the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS), Italian Ophthalmologic Society (SOI), Italian Society for uveitis and ocular inflammatory disease (SIUMIO).
