Biography:
Dr. Harvey Uy earned his Bachelor’s Degree as Magna Cum Laude in Biology at the University of the Philippines in 1986. In that same year, he received the UP Presidential Pin and entered the prestigious Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He received his medical degree from the UP College of Medicine in 1991 in Manila. He then completed the Residency Program in Ophthalmology at the Philippine General Hospital, where he was Assistant Chief Resident in 1994. He went on to complete two fellowship programs. The first at St. Luke’s Medical Center, one for Medical and Surgical Retina and one for Research and Biotechnology Division. He had another fellowship for Ocular Immunology and Uveitis in the world-famous Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of the Harvard Medical School. One of Dr. Harvey Uy’s recent achievements is winning the Best Paper of the Session Award at the 2012 American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting in Chicago for a paper on “Image Guided Cataract Surgery” which introduced a new concept of using high resolution imaging systems to visualize cataracts and help surgeons perform a better, safer operation. It was selected as best paper by a panel of international cataract experts. He has received Achievement Awards by many prestigious Ophthalmology Groups, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and has also contributed over 50 journal articles, book chapters and books to medical literature.
