Applied Physics degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Master of Science degree from Monash University, focusing on macrophage function. PhD from Monash University, on the use of flow cytometry to quantify immune function in kidney transplant recipients.

Area of Expertise:
Flow cytometry, with specific applications in clinical diagnosis, immune function quantification in kidney transplant recipients, and development of diagnostic tests for diseases like tuberculosis.  
Biography:
He started his career in flow cytometry in 1983 at the Ruby Lynch Cell Sorter Lab, part of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute in Melbourne, Australia. During his early years, he was involved in significant clinical and research work, including the diagnosis of AIDS patients and research on haemopoietic stem cells. He obtained his Applied Physics degree while working at this institution. Later, he moved to Prince Henry’s Hospital's Department of Nephrology and then to the Clinical Immunology department at Monash Medical Centre, completing further studies and managing core flow cytometry facilities. In 2008, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal, to head a flow cytometry lab at the Instituo de Medicina Molecular, and since 2009, he has been managing the core flow cytometry facility at the National University of Singapore's Life Sciences Institute. He has been actively involved in the ISAC and organized several significant conferences and workshops across Asia. His research interests include the development of diagnostic tests for tuberculosis and new single cell measurement technologies.
